Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Bedford, TX
We’re Always Happy to Educate Patients
There are many aspects of dentistry that can be understandably complicated, which is why we see it as our job to educate patients so they can make informed decisions on their care. We’ve received many questions over the years and want to help patients however we can. Below, we’ve included detailed responses to some of the most common questions we get. If your question isn’t mentioned, please call us directly and we’ll do our best to assist you!
How often should I visit for routine checkups?
We recommend that you visit our dental office once every six months. During this checkup, we’ll perform an exam to confirm if any underlying problems are present. If we have time, we’ll also perform a detailed cleaning. If you are currently undergoing gum therapy, you will need to visit more often, typically every three to four months.
Can I visit if I have a dental emergency?
Absolutely! We will do everything we can to see you on the same day that your dental emergency occurs. After all, dental emergencies do not get better on their own. Whether you have a toothache caused by decay, physical trauma that left your teeth or gum tissue damaged, or an oral infection that needs root canal therapy, we’re here to help.
My tooth hurts. What is causing it?
There are many potential causes of tooth pain. Once we complete an exam and capture X-rays of your mouth, we can pinpoint the exact cause of your toothache and prescribe a treatment plan from there. If decay is present, we’ll remove it and either place a dental filling or crown. If an oral infection is causing pain, we can perform a root canal and cover the tooth with a dedicated restoration.
Do I need to pay a lot to enhance my smile?
Not necessarily. While certain cosmetic treatments are highly customized with high-quality materials (such as porcelain veneers) and therefore cost more, there are more affordable options as well. Our dental office performs cosmetic bonding and teeth whitening (both through in-office treatment and take-home trays) to resolve cracks, chips, stains, and even gaps between teeth! Both treatments are generally less expensive than other cosmetic methods.
My teeth are crooked. What are my treatment options?
There are multiple options available to treat crooked, crowded, and gapped teeth. Invisalign utilizes a series of clear plastic aligners customized to shift teeth into straighter positions slowly over time. However, those with more severe orthodontic concerns can also take advantage of traditional metal braces should they need them.
Do you see children?
We are happy to see patients of all ages, including children. Our team is trained to help young patients get comfortable in the dental chair, educate them on proper brushing and flossing techniques at home, and treatments designed to protect their developing smile.
How should I replace missing teeth?
Teeth can be replaced through more traditional methods such as dental bridges and dentures, but these are not ideal for everyone. We often recommend dental implants to our patients thanks to their longevity, reliability, and esthetics. We can even place the implants right here in the dental office for added convenience!
